Customs inspection

Inspection by customs officials in which the goods contained in a shipment are checked against the documents accompanying it and the customs declaration submitted to customs. At the time of the flow of a customs bill, the Customs Agency can expect the following 3 outcomes:

  • CA (automated control) – no control, goods immediately released
  • CD (documentary control) – authorities check the documentation accompanying the customs declaration. It may then decide to release the goods or request a more thorough visit by physically checking the goods
  • VM (merchandise verification) – the official in charge is required to physically check the merchandise before releasing it. Some customs may also check the goods by scanner control (CS)
